So, am I correct in concluding that with version 2.7.0.1 you could play the VST using a MIDI file (but not with the virtual keyboard) and that 2.7.1.2 was always silent?

Yes, but in 2.7.0.1 it crashes when you try to stop a music play/preview.

I have installed the demo of this VST. All versions of SynthFont2x64 seem to be able to make sounds out of the VST when playing a file. Version 2.7.1.3 experiences an exception when pressing stop. No version after 2.6.0.1 play live.
I will certainly figure it out now.
