Re: SynthFont 2
Any look into the looping problems I am having from C onwards?
I'm using C again because of it.

Yes - and no - I have looked into it but haven't been able to identify the issue. Maybe I am not doing the correct test...
Looping problem --- Elven, I need your help. Here are three different version:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1733095/SynthFont2-Feb16.exe
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1733095/SynthFont2-Feb17.exe
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1733095/SynthFont2-Feb20.exe
Does any of them loop correctly? Or all?
(Reminder: version "c" was released February 15th and "d" the 17th)
They appear to all work now, so I have NO idea what was wrong. o.o
I'll keep testing now and let you know.
(It does puzzle me, we all seem to get these weird intermittent bugs...)
Thanks.
I SO VERY WELL know what you mean!
I wonder if programmers in the past have made it really hard on modern programmers because of bad coding habits or something, causing bugs in the compilers, or maybe not documenting their code. Or maybe Microsoft is to blame, but who knows...
Good luck Kenneth!
I have a question:
Does SynthFont 2 support Poratmento effect?
I tried to apply it on different MIDIs using MIDI control changes for time and depth (or only on or off?), but it didn't seem to work.
Hmmmmm good question from LIkeaguest..... So many of the Midi files I'm finding these days have any number of various controller values and I see that Synthfont 1.613 shows some of them as not supported.
So I'm not sure which of the standard midi controllers are supported in either Synthfont 2 or 1.613.... Come to think of it... I wonder which controllers are used for soundfont and which are passed onto VST effects or VSTI instruments.
Bottom line is that I'm confused on this and would it be a lot of trouble to outline midi controller functionality for us Ken.
thanks.
I would like to ask a general MIDI question.
I understand that in GS synthesisers, channels 10 and 11 can be used for percussion such that you may have two different drum kits used. What MIDI commands set-up the non-standard channel 11 as drums too? Or aren't there any?

I don't think there are any. Most hardware synths has channel 10 encoded as THE percussion channel. SynthFont of course lets you use ANY channel as the percussion channel, you just have to select a preset from the "128" bank...
Portamento is not supported.
A few things to say:
-Could you include a Portamento support if you have the time to?
-I'm having problems with the "delete surplus events" button
Just have a look here:
here's the MIDI: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28573353/SynthF … c%20HQ.mid
-when you use the button "add new event" and insert a time signature, the tick is always set to 1 and can only get changed in the event list after you inserted it
- I will need to investigate Portamento some more before giving you a definite answer
- Obviously the VERY first Alto Sax program change should not be flagged. I'll fix that (later)
- Now, here is an issue: I HATE it when a Time Signature event does not fall on a bar border!! This is wrong! Thus the tick should never be bigger than 1. PLEASE ALL OF YOU COMMENT ON THIS MY (MIS)CONCEPTION.
Here's a new version:

This is very much a version for testing two concepts: a new tracks list and a new way of presenting options windows. You will see what I mean as soon as you have Plug & Play open in front of you. One thing that is different now is that Layers are shown as children of the parent track. Also, the mixer has been integrated into the tracks list. There are no separate buttons in the tracks list header, instead you can click on the header to show the options. One problem I have is with the "SF2 File | VST inst | MIDI out" column. Previously there were three different buttons, now there is only one button, but you can click on it in the three different areas to popup one of the three menus, as before.
Please don't throw these concepts away immediately - give them a try, at least.
I just thought it would be better to set the tick of time signatures to 0 instead of 1.
Btw any other value than 0 does mix up the bar position on the piano roll.
Oh yes! Sorry! You are right. It should be 0, not 1. Will fix.
Ken.... There are several things a I like a lot about SYNTHFONT 2g. First of all I like the tracks layout with the display of LAYERS as children to parent tracks... as you know I make constant use of layers to reinforce a track. In prior versions its always a hunt in the tracks below for a parent track higher up in the list of tracks... this I like a lot. You are now showing track size... GREAT !!! I still think "PAN SPREAD" and the the Pan value shown in the tracks are two different things and should be split as you now do nicely in Synthfont 1.613. I much prefer the integrated mixer on the left side of the track info line. However, I work with currently assigned soundfont presets and VSTI and not necessarily the patch thats imbedded in the midi file soooooo for me I'd like the see the "MIDI PROGRAM" column someplace over on the right side. in other words, everything I'm using at the moment in one spot and informational stuff in another on the track line. Why not show the bank and/or patch number for the currently assigned soundfont since it is what one is currently working with. To a large degree, the MIDI PROGRAM column is only informational to me.
Note that the list of recently used sounfonts still does not scroll properly unless one is using more than a few soundfonts in an arrangement for some reason.
I also like the way options windows are handled in this Version... Very much so in fact....
In a few words.... NICE... this is real nice !!!!!!
I could say lots of about this version, but then you'd have to sift through it all, so I'll try to be short and concise however I will miss out things so do ask me for more if you want. ![]()
This new version actually looks very old (as if it's a beta version of SynthFont1) in the new style of interface.
The new interface takes a lot of memory and takes a while to load on minimise -> restore/maximise. This therefore means that it's slower than the old versions.
I don't know why the volume controls have moved to the left of the track either, I preferred them on the right where they used it be.
The idea of having layers as children is a good idea, but the rest of the changes really make the interface look and behave odd for me.
Everything seems too compact now in one corner of the window.
Is there any way to merge the layer changes with the old interface?
How about a snap-window-borders option?
1: The red checkmarks do not appear or disappear when selecting windows.
2: If a window is partially hidden by another window, it should be brought to the foreground when clicked; this happens only when it is clicked and moved.
3: On the volume window, the SYNC button pops up if the small arrow next to it is pressed.
4: I don't like having to hold the mouse button in the Sound Source window, because my mouse takes some strength to press the button and it wears my finger out. Otherwise I could live with it.
5: I like the new interface, but it is a bit slow. If the interface causes playback to skip, I would like to be able to play without the interface so I can preview the music in higher resolution. This could be nice if Synthfont reverts to a compact MIDI player with a playlist during this mode.
6: The buttons right above the track list don't work, I click them and they just pop up and down but no menus show up.
7: When I change a track option such as the pitch shift method or FX bus, the change doesn't register on the tracklist.
8: The samplerate keeps reverting to 44.1k...
9: The volume slider stays sync'd even when I turn off the sync option.
10: The "set both sliders to the same value" option doesn't work.
11: I opened a new MIDI file and the pianoroll tab just disappeared. So I switched back and forth between "wizard" and "just playing" modes and then all the other tabs disappeared except for Info and Files!!!
12: Synthfont is now too slow to play many of my files with the 96KHz samplerate, this is a bummer...
13: I was asked to locate a missing soundfont, but before I was able to Synthfont froze with max CPU usage.
I know that many functions in the new layout do not work, but I actually only wanted some feedback on the new design concept. I guess I have got the feedback: put everything back as it was before! So be it.
Friends. My computer crashed today due to a spike in the power cables. It will not start. I have a week now in front of me rebulding the whole system. So a new test version will net be around for a while.
Ken,
UGH!... I was in a similar situation the end of December. Its not a fun thing... Since then I back up my music stuff onto an offline drive at home here and my circulated songs to an online storage site ... but there would still have to be the re installs and jiggering of everything... also not a fun thing.
Keep the faith Ken.... no doubt everyone here is wishing you well on the rebuilding.
Chasp
That's not good at all Ken ![]()
Good luck mate!
