Removing/Reduce Sustain pedal Noice

Post by Trygve Larsen »

Hi all! This is my first post here..
In the Salamander Piano Soundfont, there is a terrible noise from the sustain pedal, that is very annoying for me. So I wonder if someone could guide me a little, step by step, on how to either remove that noise, or at least reduce it... Is that possible to be done?

Thank's in advance...;)

Hi, and welcome to the group.
I'm prepared to help. Can you please at first tell me which exact version of the SoundFont you have?

Not deleted, but as you are a new member your posts are always at first moderated. Sometimes I'm slow.
I have the SoundFont on my hard drive so I will look at it within the next few days.

In the Natural Salamander Piano preset there are many layers of which one is totally incomprehensible to me. Look at this image:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/o4z2db78l59u9 ... s.png?dl=0

This image is a screen capture of part of my SoundFont editor Viena. To the right you see the original piano which as the last layer includes a "Salamander Releases" layer. This layer contains pedal sounds, but much too much. I don't see the need of this at all. I have made a version of the SoundFont lacking this layer (to the left in the image).

Also the second acoustic piano ("BriteSalamanderPiano") contains this extra element that could and should be removed.

Sound comparisons:
1) original: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1r47ciscqt59a ... g.mp3?dl=0
2) without pedal layer: https://www.dropbox.com/s/01m55eppj80df ... P.mp3?dl=0

Is this the answer to your question?

Wow ! That was so much better.. BUT, I think it's not the sound that I ment, that I feel destroying the overall sound.. I think that is the sound called, from "SalGrPno Rel10L" and the whole way down to "SalGrPno Rel9R"...Because, when I listen to that sound, it's exactly the sound that I find just irritating.... But how to delete those? I tried ctrl-shift-X, but that did not work... I see there is a lot of edit that can be done with it, but I have no idea how and what to do.. Just want to get rid of the whole sound... The sound that you deleted, I was also able to delete, but not this one...;) And also holding shift down and scroll down to mark all of them, and then delete all, does not also work... Must be some ways to do it, right?

SHIFT+CTR+X does the trick. You can also click with the RIGHT mouse button to show a context menu (first LEFT to select, then RIGHT for menu). In the menu there is a Delete item. Try it!

Hm, don't know why it did not work first time I tried... But this time, when tried again, it worked.. Thank's Kenneth for taking the time to help me out here ! :D

BTW, is it allowed to post links to great midifile collections here?
I came across a website with thousands of live played piano midi files of public domain classical music... It might be of value for piano music fans...;)

The VLC player now support Soundfont's for midi playback and can also batch convert whole
midi playlist to mp4...;)
