Mike, I think I have found the flaw. Here is a test version:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/173 ... a0995D.rar
This version also presents a new feature. You can show two soundfonts side by side and drag and drop items between them, To show (and hide) two soundfonts (always the first two), press CTRL+D. Keep in mind that this is an early test version of this feature!

Kenneth,

I have just tried to delete splits with 0.995D, even using a very old and small soundfont which has absolutely no connection with my current large ones, and I am still finding Delete to be greyed out. It happened under Windows 7, but ALSO under Ubuntu and WINE.

I wonder... are we looking at the same function?

BTW: The latest versions have had problems with the Undo function, but I cannot see that THIS could have anything to do with it.

Kenneth,

It seems that we are not looking at the same thing. I click on the split I select to delete, then I click on Edit. Delete appears near the top of the list, but with 0.995D (and with 0.994, from memory) it usually appears greyed out, but very occasionally it is not greyed out. I never have this behaviour with 0.780, which I now depend on if I really do need to delete some splits.

That's actually the same thing. Hence, something happens in your case that doesn't happen in mine. To figure this out I need your help. Download this version:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/173 ... a0995E.rar
and also
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1733095/DBWIN32.exe
Run DBWIN32 and then Viena0995E. Do what you usually do until you get to the step when you want to delete a split and the function is grayed out.
Finally, send me the DBWIN32 output.

Kenneth,

For what it's worth, I've just had the 0.994 successfully remove a split. So I'm afraid that my reports are not consistent. I can add that the soundfonts involved (including the 0.995E test) are all new and very small.

Thanks John, this was very helpful. I could now "see" exactly what you have done and reproduce it. It led me to find a few other related pitfalls as well that I have corrected. Here is the next version:

Kenneth,

I have tried 0.995F, and it is certainly enabling me to delete splits in situations where the previous recent versions were failing. I have now embarked on making what will be (for me) a major soundfont, which I expect to take quite a number of weeks, and I shall use 0.995F exclusively, and report back any problems I encounter. The functions I use are fairly basic, so it will not in any way be a comprehensive testing.

Thank you for your patience in following up this particular problem.

Good!
In this case you may still want to use this version:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/173 ... a0995G.rar

I've fixed a number of inconsistencies - nothing dramatic, but still. This is very close to being a Release Candidate #1, I think.

Now, when I am it it: one major improvement is the capability to handle very large SoundFonts - up to 4 GB.

There is one cosmetic change you may like or not - when you select an Instrument or a Preset in the tree view, you can now let Viena go immediately to the Splits or Layers table (to the Global) and skip the "graphical map." You can choose how you want to to have it in Setup.

The double view is also handy for comparing two SoundFonts. Additionally, there is a drag and drop feature - drag almost any item and drop it. This is a somewhat untested feature - use carefully!

Another important big fix: the Undo functions did not always work.
