i am trying Synthfont2 in Windows7 and set my own soundfont as default, but when i open a new file or an old midi, i still get that included GSGMx-soundfont on all tracks.

when i play a midi, i have only access to the playbutton or, when playing, the stopbutton

in the drumtrack i cant see the presetnames of my drumfont

in the plugandplaywindow the selected traak gets blank

what should i try?

The first thing to make sure of is that the SoundFont you want to use is a General Midi one - at least 127 Melodic Presets and one Percussion (Drum) Preset.

So you mean to say that the "Play to File (Write)" button and the "Play to Both" button are always gray (disabled)?

Make sure your SoundFont has a Percussion Preset.

When does this track get blank? Have you tested any of the Color Scheme Styles (main menu View|Select Color Scheme)?

there are indeed a few presets missing, because i have no use for General Midi and i am allergic to gunshots, applause and star themes.
i wil put some dummies there and see what happens.
what i meant about the playbar is that floating playbar; i cant scroll to the start or end, but maybe that wil be solved after i adjust my soundfont to Synthfont.
thank you so far

Yes, just checked the code. There MUST be 128 melodic presets (0-127) defined. Sorry about that. I used to let people decide if to accept a non-GM SoundFont, but it caused problems in the end I recall now. There are definitely better solutions than this one, for example, grabbing the missing presets from the included GSGMx. Sounds like a good idea, actually.

The floating playbar has no scrolling options, only buttons to move to the start (not the end though) and skip backward/forward 1 (or 10) bars, or go to a marker.

CORRECTION - the requirement for a full GM SoundFont has gone already (in 2013) and GMGSx is indeed used as a replacement when needed. I'll continue to look for other inconsistencies.
