VSTSynthFont- cannot see or set up GM program names in Cubase 8.5.20

I am having some difficulty assigning a GM instrument map to VSTSythfont in Cubase 8.5.20
I am loading a GM Soundfont, but I don't get the instrument names in the Cubase Track Inspector
They are all appearing as "8" which is unhelpful and unusable
When I try to add a GM device and connect it to VSTSynthfont, it does not appear in the drop down
I can't seem to find a way to get the VSTSynthfont to report the GM program names to Cubase for use in the inspector. Can anyone help and let me know how to do that?
