Re: String playback note attack

Well, thank you for your replies but I don't think we can go much further. I had already added the ampeg_attack to a region definition, just for testing, but It made no difference at all in the playback. Of course I could have missed something but I made it as simple as I could to avoid introducing ...

Re: String playback note attack

Are you saying that I would have to put the parameter in each of the regions rather than under the group heading as I did? Actually, I did put it in the region of the test pitch I was using, still to no effect. I would rather vary attack times with note length rather than velocity. There are many .s...

Re: String playback note attack

I have found no input control which when added to the definitions in the .sfz file (under the group header) has any effect on the playback at all.

Re: String playback note attack

Now that I think a little more about it, I wonder if I can specify the value of the "attack rate" parameter ("ampeg_attack"?) as a function of the absolute length of the note (tempo times number of ticks), varying from zero for notes up to a certain length and then increasing pro...

Re: String playback note attack

No, I want to be able to vary the instruments' attack on individual notes. As you would know, stringed instruments can "ease into" a note and this is the preferred way of playing, generally. However, on fast notes this isn't really possible or, indeed, desirable. In the playback of my late...

Re: String playback note attack

Whoa! I was a bit quick off the mark asking that! I have found control event 73 does the job. Pardon me.

String playback note attack

I find the attack on the notes in the playback from MIDI of my piece for strings is too abrupt. Do you know of any way I can tone it down through the MIDI or SynthFont?

Re: Using the Sonatina Symphonic soundfont

Yes, that will be an improvement. It was easy to get Mozart to assign channels to the instruments, so that enabled me to use the Sonatina fonts. However, as my piece is for a solo violin accompanied by a string quartet, the Sonatina font was seriously deficient in not having a solo viola. I tried us...
